Organic pizza dough from The Bread Stop!

The Omnivore Share

This week our Omnivore Share can also be dubbed, “The Pizza Share.” We’ve consulted with Rogue Creamery for some suggestions on what their favorite pizza cheeses are and decided to include both their Smokey Blue, and the TouVelle Cheddar. We include both the Original Pizza Dough and the Rosemary Pizza Dough from The Bread Stop, which are now sold in Southern Oregon exclusively by Rogue Produce! The D’anjou Pears and fresh Arugula can be paired with the blue cheese for some creative pizza ideas; and the roasted garlic tomato sauce from Sweet Creek Foods and the ground Italian Sausage from White Oak Ranch can make a more traditional pizza pie. Pizza Party!

Large Leaf Spinach from Wandering Roots Farm!

The Keto Share

The Keto Share takes the place of our usual “Whole Kitchen Share,” inspired by a call from many of our customers to craft a Share based on a ketogenic diet. White Oak Ranch provides one of their most popular items (and a new one to our list), ground country breakfast sausage. We include free-range and organic-fed chicken and duck eggs from Harris Family Farm in Central Point, and TouVelle Cheddar from Rogue Creamery. Rogue CSA Shares

Produce Delivery

Home Delivery with The Rogue CSA!

We had a lot of fun putting together the 3 unique Rogue CSA Shares this week, trying to get the local food items in each one to inspire some simple and delicious recipes. The Veggie Share has the amazing raw and sprouted walnuts from Maria at Higher Power Raw Foods, which would go great in a salad with the red leaf lettuce, red bartlett pears, and organic blue cheese from the Rogue Creamery. We’ve also included Medjool dates in the share for the first time, as well as Crimini mushrooms, Klamath basin fingerling potatoes and carrots from Wandering Roots Farm.

The Omnivore Share has Chorizo sausage links from White Oak Ranch, one or our favorite meat selections, along with the delicious fresh corn tortillas from Jennifer at Windborne Farm, lettuce mix and cilantro from Wandering Roots, red onion, gold potatoes, Jefferson Cheddar Cheese from Rogue Creamery, and Honeyboat delicata squash, also from Wandering Roots Farm.
The Whole Kitchen Share has 3 great items for snacking:  the smoked teriyaki strips from Dauenhauer Cattle, Manzanita Jack Cheese from Oak Leaf Creamery and red bartlett pears. The rest is for a scrumptious breakfast:  breakfast sausage from Riverdog Farm, red onions, gold potatoes and a dozen eggs from Poetential Farm.

Local Food Sales!

Our coconut oil from Bright Earth Foods is only $15.95 (regularly $22.50) a jar; and all of the powdered teas from Uber Herbal are only $12.95 (regularly $18.95). The frozen peaches and sweet cherries from Valley View Orchard are also on sale for only $4.99 for a 1 lb. bag, and they’re usually $6.49.

Resource, not Waste!

Community Compost:  Smart Resource Management

We are the only residential food-scrap pick up service in Southern Oregon!  We collect your food-scraps on a weekly basis, and instead of dumping then in the land-fill, we donate them as a resource to local small farms.  Community Compost has been in business for 6 years, and you can sign up as a new customer if you live in Ashland, Talent, Phoenix or Medford.

Incentives:  Support from Local Businesses

Since we began our service in 2011, we have relied on the support of customers who pay us to collect their food-scrap resources (veggie scraps, breads, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc.), that they could otherwise simply throw away into the garbage.  Our customers support us because they know our system is a smarter way:  it prevents waste in our landfills, reduces methane emissions, and supports the efforts of local farms (we donate all of our scraps to local small farmers at no charge, who use the scraps in their composting operations).

Happy Dirt Veggie Patch Wheelbarrow

Food scraps to farms makes healthy soil and happy farmers!

Beginning this Spring, we are offering an incentive to Community Compost customers, with the help of supporting local businesses that want to be a partner in the cause of smarter resource management.  Together with these businesses, we are creating an annual coupon book for all of our Community Compost customers!  The total value of the coupons in the book is already around $100, and we plan to see it grow above and beyond the cost of a yearly enrollment in the Community Compost program.  We’ve already gathered coupons from local restaurants, book stores, coffee shops, acupuncturists, massage therapists, and more!  It’s truly a community effort.

If you are a local business owner that would like to donate an annual coupon to our book, please send us an email to compost@rogueproduce.com, or call us at 541-301-3426.  Our customers are passionate about supporting businesses that support green endeavors!

Lets Grow!

The time is now, as a region, to start getting smart about our resource management, and the preservation of the food-scraps produced in our local households is a great place to start.  We already have the system in place, and we are ready to grow — and we are confident we can do this from the grassroots.  The annual coupon book is our first effort to reduce the cost of participation in our program; the second is getting more customers!  The more people we have on board, particularly in condensed areas, the more we can lower the fees for our service.
