It’s All Rogue!

We’re proud to share that all of the items in our Bundles this delivery are from in or around the Rogue Valley (within 50 miles or so), and the story this week centers around Matt Suhr and his farm, HappyDirt Veggie Patch, in Medford. Matt currently receives the food scraps from our Community Compost program, and that certainly makes his soil a measure happier than most! Matt’s got a lot of produce coming in, and we’re highlighting what he has available in the four Bundles we’re putting together. Brown Turkey Figs are in at Michellynda Orchard, in Ashland

Here are some of the awesome local farms contributing to this share: HappyDirt Veggie Patch, Ella Bella Farm, Wandering Roots Farm, Fry Family Farm, Terra Sol Organics, Michellynda Orchard, and Rolling Hills Farm. This share includes an Italian pepper medley (nothing spicy), a pint of cherry tomatoes, a pound of heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, pea shoots, brown turkey figs, peaches, kale, cilantro, Armenian cucumbers, crookneck squash, and a bunch of carrots. Suggestions: Olive oil always elevates the flavors of those tomatoes, and we recommend a fine fromage from By George or goat chèvre from Oak Leaf Creamery. Might want to order a head of lettuce, too. FYI, those pea shoots are a great way to add fresh greens to a smoothie!

The share includes a loaf of Rogue Valley Sourdough Bread, an 8 oz. tub of raw Herbs de Provence goat chèvre, a pound of smoked bacon, heirloom tomatoes, an Italian pepper medley, fresh basil, crookneck squash, and giant peaches. Suggestions: Add a head of lettuce for fixings on a BLT. Perhaps a dozen eggs for a hearty breakfast? You’ll also want to grab a pint of brown turkey figs while you still have a chance!

Suggestions: If you’re a true keto person, you’ll probably want to add some avocado and maybe a few more veggies. The Italian pepper medley from Ella Bella Farm would also complement this share.

Suggestions: Pea shoots are always our favorite to add to a breakfast sandwich (I guess you’ll need bread, too) or smoothie. Veggie Share

Heirloom TomatoesSavor the amazing organic tomatoes from Ella Bella Farm and a share of their red bell peppers. They’ll go great with a bag of micro greens from Terra Sol Organics or fresh basil from Matt at Happy Dirt Veggie Patch. Also in the mix are sprouted raw walnuts from Maria at Higher Power Raw Foods; peaches from Rolling Hills Orchard; cucumbers, zucchini and cherry tomatoes from Wandering Roots Farm; garlic from Happy Dirt Veggie Patch; and a bunch of organic broccolini. Suggestions:  you may want to get a loaf of ciabatta from Rise Up! Bakery, and some olive oil and vinegar from Pasture 42; and any variety of our spreadable cheeses add great potential for sandwiches and appetizers!

Omnivore Share

CiabattaSink your teeth into a bite of teriyaki beef jerky strips from Dauenhauer Cattle, in Ashland. These strips are moist, tender morsels that melt in your mouth and have delicious flavor. Heirlooms and red bells from Ella Bella have to be included, and we throw in the recommended ciabatta from Rise Up! Bakery. The ciabatta is versatile:  you can slice it thin and make bruschetta or just tear it apart and dip it in olive oil and vinegar with some minced garlic. You can’t go wrong spreading a bit of garlic basil fromage from By George onto any kind of bread, and we add a pound of ground Italian sausage from White Oak Ranch for a main course. To top it off we throw in cucumbers from Wandering Roots, Rolling Hills Orchard peaches, and a bunch of broccolini. Suggestions:  Gotta add some fresh basil from Matt at Happy Dirt Veggie patch to pair with those tomatoes; maybe some Rogue Creamery cheese for a snack combo with the jerky; lettuce to toss a salad; and olive oil and vinegar of course! You could make a great pizza too with the dough from Bread Stop Bakery.

Keto Share

We’ve received great reviews on the bacon from White Oak Ranch, and it goes well with a breakfast of eggs from Harris Family Farm. It’s hard to claim any product as a favorite, but the Herbs de Provence raw goat chevre from Dave at Oak Leaf Creamery is one we would consider – and this share includes an 8 oz. tub. Dauenhauer Cattle contributes their staple peppered jerky beef strips and Terra Sol Organics offers a mixed medley of micro greens. We finish it off with a share of red bell pepper and a bunch of broccolini. Suggestions:  If you’re a true keto you’ll probably want to add some avocado and some more veggies. If you’re flexible, we recommend getting your favorite loaf of bread from Rise Up! Bakery and some peaches from Rolling Hills Orchard.

The Veggie Share

Sun Gold Cherry TomatoesStraight up Summer goodness begins with Red Haven Peaches from either Rolling Hills Orchard or Valley View Orchard, as well as apples (they’ll be either yellow delicious or Gravenstein), and a pint of Brown Turkey Figs. Wandering Roots Farm throws in a pint of mixed cherry tomatoes, a pound of heirlooms, red leaf lettuce, fresh basil and cucumbers; and Terra Sol Organics supplies a nutritious and delicious bag of their fresh pea shoots. To round it out we’ll toss in a couple of large Hass avocados.

The Breakfast Share

EggsAnother big winner this week! You get to choose what kind of bagels you’d like (a bag of 4) from Little Shop of Bagels in Ashland:  plain, hiker, whole wheat hiker, onion or cinnamon raisin. You also get to choose from a selection of amazing cream cheeses, also from Little Shop of Bagels:  plain, sour cream and chives, or marionberry. To make a perfect breakfast sandwich you’ll also need the heirloom tomatoes from Wandering Roots and the fresh pea shoots from Terra Sol Organics; and a dozen eggs from Harris Family Farm (that’s a mix of duck and chicken eggs). And, of course, you’ll need the smell of bacon to fill your kitchen, so we include a pound of the highly praised bacon from White Oak Ranch. To round out the share we throw in a 1/2 pound of crimini mushrooms and a pound of red onion. Yummy!

Fresh berries!

We get word straight from the berry patch every week at Pennington Farms, from Sam, who let’s us know what the best berries to purchase are during the weeks of our deliveries. This week Sam recommends olallieberries, raspberries and blueberries You get a half-pint each of two varieties in your veggie share this week (unless the Pennington’s give us full pints, which happens from time to time : ). We go north to the Columbia Gorge to get some delicious red cherries (the local ones are done); and south to Cali for heirloom tomatoes, large hass avocados and broccolini. The rest is straight-up Rogue Local Produce:  fresh basil, cucumber, and red butter lettuce from Wandering Roots; fresh parsley from Whistling Duck Farm; and nice big bulbs of garlic from Geoffrey at Four Winds Farm.

Heirloom tomatoes are here!

We came up with this one after enjoying some of the delicious bacon from White Oak Ranch last week – it goes so well with the Little Applegate Sourdough from Rise Up Bakery, heirloom tomatoes and Romaine lettuce. Wandering Roots offers fresh basil and cucumber; garlic from Four Winds Farm; and a 6 oz. tub of Mediterranean Lavender Goat Chevre from Robin at Mama Terra Micro-Creamery (thank you for waiting patiently for this cheese to be available again)!

Plenty of veggies coming in now that the sun is shining! This is the first week we have produce from Chris Jaggar at Blue Fox Farm:  his salad mix, cucumbers, cilantro and basil are all in the Veggie Share this week. Matt at Happy Dirt Veggie Patch has a variety of radishes, and you’ll get a bunch of either dragon, French breakfast or Easter egg. The pea shoots from Terra Sol Organics are phenomenal, and a 2 oz. bag explodes into a crunchy topping for salads and sandwiches, or as a stand alone snack. Wandering Roots Farm chips in with a hearty share of sugar snap peas, salad turnips and a head of Napa cabbage. Get yours local!

Fresh tortillas made with heirloom corn from Windborne Farm, with enchilada sauce from Sweet Creek Foods (let us know if you want the mild green or red). We also include a jar of either mild or medium salsa from Sweet Creek – just let us know which you prefer. Wandering Roots have a fresh crop of Spring Turnips!

The Veggie Share

Wandering Roots Farm has beautiful bunches of fresh cilantro and Spring turnips (with the tops) that you won’t want to miss. Turnip tops are tasty and super nutritious! Maria and Fry at Talent Natural Farm have a gourmet lettuce mix (exclusively for Rogue Produce) with arugula and spinach thrown in for good measure. We include a bag of Jennifer’s famous fresh corn tortillas, from Windborne Farm, and the unique and flavorful “Manzanita Jack” from Dave at Oak Leaf Creamery. We round out the veggie share with sweet yellow onion, large avocados, Crimini mushrooms, sweet potatoes and asparagus.

Zack at Dauenhauer Cattle is now supplying us with single packs of grass-fed and finished steaks. This week we’ve chosen the New York steak, in a nice thick cut of 1.25 inches. You should definitely check out all of the cuts available from Dauenhauer; especially the tenderloin! We include a loaf of Rosemary Focaccia from Rise Up! Bakery, and the Spring turnips from Wandering Roots. Matt at Happy Dirt Veggie Patch has some beautiful bunches of green garlic with some nice bulbs. This share also includes the gourmet lettuce mix from Talent Natural Farm, Japanese sweet potatoes and asparagus.

The Keto Share

You might want this share even if you’re not doing the Keto diet! We’re thinking with the Italian sausage from White Oak Ranch, you could pick up some of our tomato sauce from Sweet Creek Foods and a bag of our pizza dough from the Bread Stop for pizza night! Or, you can order some tortillas from Windborne farm and make some tacos with the Chorizo sausage (also from White Oak Ranch). You’ve got some cheese to melt with the Manzanita Jack from Dave at Oak Leaf, and plenty of Mexican flavors you can arrange with the large avocados, green garlic (from Happy Dirt Veggie Patch), fresh cilantro (from Wandering Roots Farm) and yellow sweet onion. Rogue Fare: Online Orders, Home Delivery!

We’ve got another great variety of Rogue CSA Shares for you, and several new delicious local items on our greater list. You can view all of our selections and place an order for home delivery at our Online Farmers Market. Since all of the Shares contain a cheese product this week, we will be happy to sub fruits or veggies for the cheese in the Veggie Share if you request it!

The Veggie Share

Our Veggie Share this week features a new item from Maria at Higher Power Raw Foods. This lady is amazing! The new item in the Veggie Share is Maria’s “Beet It Crackers,” made with organic beets, carrots, celery and spices; these are a number one seller for Maria at market. We’ve also added her Onion Crackers and Sprouted Almonds to the list. A favorite cheese of ours, the, “Herbs De Provence Chevre,” is one of Dave’s best from Oak Leaf Creamery. Dave’s cheeses are all made from raw goat cheese, and this one is super fluffy and great for dipping or spreading. Matt at Happy Dirt Veggie Patch is represented with some lovely bunches of Arugula; Kristina and Kyle at Terra Sol with their nutritious and delicious pea shoots; and Jeff and Anna at Wandering Roots Farm with topped carrots. The rest of the Veggie Share is rounded out with organic Minneola Tangelos, Honeycrisp Apples, Celery and Broccolini.

The Omnivore Share

I have to say that I am most proud of the Omnivore Share this week because of all the help I’ve received from Angela at Rock Field Farm; she provides our amazing lamb cuts. Angela is offering 3 different recipes for lamb stew that we’ll be including in the Share this week, and we’ve stocked the Share with as many ingredients necessary for the recipe as possible. The Share includes Angela’s lamb stew meat, russet potatoes, Wandering Roots carrots, celery, jumbo yellow onion, garlic and fresh thyme from David at Dunbar Farm. The Omnivore also includes the Herbs De Provence Goat Chevre, plus a Hearty Salad Mix from Matt at Happy Dirt and organic Minneola Tangelos!

Bakery, a dozen eggs from Poetential Farm, Landjeager from Dauenhauer Cattle, Raw Goat Feta from Oak Leaf Creamery, Lettuce Mix from Wandering Roots, and your choice of Olive Oil from Pasture 42 (just let us know in the notes at the bottom of the form if you want the Arbequina, Garlic or Lemon).
We still have the powdered teas from Uber Herbal on sale, the coconut oil from Bright Earth Foods on super sale, as well as the frozen peaches and cherries from Valley View Orchard.
